Assignment Overview
Overview (2–3 pages):
Reflect on your beliefs about literacy in secondary content areas and how diversity shapes your instructional choices. Connect your views to ideas from Roe et al. (2014) and at least one evidence-based practice you plan to use.

Step-by-step guidelines
- Choose a content area and grade band you have in mind (e.g., Biology, grade 9).
- Review Roe et al., Ch. 1–2, noting 2–3 key takeaways that resonate with you.
- Write Part 1: Your current beliefs about content-area literacy (what it is, why it matters).
- Write Part 2: How diversity in your classroom (linguistic, cultural, ability, interest) informs your literacy choices.
- Write Part 3: Name at least one evidence-based practice (e.g., think-alouds, morphology instruction, reciprocal teaching); explain how/why you’ll use it.
- Conclude with a brief action plan: 3 concrete moves you’ll try in your classroom.
- Edit your paper for clarity; cite Roe et al. where used (APA 7) and include a references page.
- Submit your polished and completed paper in paragraph format to the dropbox by the deadline.
