Purpose

To assess your ability to:

  • Discuss the purpose of corrections.
  • Compare and contrast retribution and rehabilitation as these concepts relate to corrections.
  • Discuss the basic goals and philosophy of sentencing.
  • Compare and contrast indeterminate and mandatory sentencing.

Overview

This assignment is due in Module 2.

There are, however, preliminary deadlines due this module. In this assignment, you are required to select one of the articles listed below and then prepare a five slide PowerPoint presentation. The slides will address different aspects of the article and explain your reaction to them.

Next module, you will attend a class meeting and present your PowerPoint. This module, your professor will post a selection of presentation dates in an announcement, and you will be required to choose a date that is convenient for you to make your presentation.

To successfully complete this assignment, you are expected to read and study key points and all assigned readings for this module. It is also highly recommended that you familiarize yourself with the grading criteria provided. The grading criteria contain information on how your assignment will be assessed by your professor. Ensure that you cover all relevant information expected of you in the assignment.
