instructions Milestone Assessment Milestone Module 3: CLO 3: Students will be able to describe techniques commonly used in the counseling process. Each counseling theory is the foundation and the techniques are the tools used to reach specific goals. For example, when we use Person Centered Therapy as our foundation, the theoretical foundation is to assume that each person is working out how to be the best individual they can be- whatever that looks like for them. That is the humanistic understanding of human nature. Each client then, is seeing a counselor because somehow they are having difficulty being their authentic self. Rogers believed that each individual knew what they needed to do to reach that goal but that the counselor’s role was to create a safe space for the client to explore and own their decisions. Techniques we use in Person Centered Therapy would be active listening and reflecting. Use APA formatting as it applies to essays- title page, reference page, headings, and organizational format, etc. (General Format // Purdue Writing Lab) What will you do. * You will identify 5 issues/problems that you or a fictitious person is experiencing. * You will identify 5 techniques from the lists provided in the module. * You will explain the theory and technique (citing and referencing- at least one paragraph). * You will then apply that technique to that individual and the problem (i.e., Patient problem- “I can’t shut off my mind”. Technique- Cognitive Restructuring). * Make sure to write this as a narrative and you are encouraged to role play the conversation to demonstrate that you understand how it will look.
