Reflect on a recent team experience from your work, military or personal life where communication within the team did not go as planned and address the following questions.

  1. Describe the team that you were part of and the shared purpose of your work together. Include the size of the team.
  2. What were the team’s top 2-3 goals?
  3. What were your personal top 2-3 goals?
  4. Use the Chapter 7 Self-Assessment: Evaluating Your Team’s Communication Effectiveness to rate the communications your team did not do well and provide a description of one of your lowest scores. [Example: “Our team did not encourage feedback so I gave a score of 1 because we did not do well with in this area of communication.”]
    • You will find the Self-Assessment in the 12th edition on page 216 and 13th Edition on page 231 of the hardcopy. If you are using a digital version of the book and your page numbers are different from these, you can find the Self-Assessment close to the end of the chapter immediately before the section Promote Desirable Norms.
  5. Considering this area in which you gave the team a low score in communications, review Chapters 7 and 8 to identify a solution or approach for how communications could have been improved. Also include the page number from the textbook where this solution is found.
  6. Describe how the team’s goals would have been met using this solution.
  7. Describe how your goals would have been met using this solution.
