Using some of the same resources you used to research topic ideas, begin researching your topic. Research, organize, and start to outline the following information:
- Symptoms (things the person would tell you) and Signs (things you would see about the person)
- Treatments
- Effect on day-to-day function
- Etiology (Who is likely to get this disorder? Age, gender, ethnicity, risk factors, etc.)
- Typical age of onset
- Prognosis (What is thought to be happening in the brain of the individual of the disorder?)
- Healthcare issues/challenges to providing health care to individuals with this illness or disorder
- What health care providers should keep in mind when working with patients with this mental illness or disorder
- Celebrity photo and/or movie that reflects someone with the illness or disorder (short videos, less than 1 minute in length may be embedded)
EXAMPLE OUTLINE
An example of what your outline COULD look like. None of you have to use this and I suggest not copying it completely. This is just an example to get you started. You would get it started like below, and add info for each remaining slide. I only added 5 so you had an idea.
Introduction
- An overall discussion of what your selected topic. Including information pertinent to what you plan on discussing.
Slide 1: Symptoms
- Provide an brief overview of what your presentation will discuss when you get to this slide.
Stage 2: Treatments
- Again, a brief overview of treatments you plan on discussing (you do not have to get into any in-depth detail for any of these slides.
- Example of brief:
- CBT, Pain Management, Chiropractic Adjustments (you would go more in-depth about each treatment type in your presentation)
Stage 3: Effect on day-to-fay Function
- Provide different information and examples on how someone with your illness if affected daily
- Example:
- Frequent pain, difficult time finding jobs which require extensive physical activity, etc.
Stage 4: Etiology
- Brief overview of the etiology of your topic.
- Keep in mind, your outline for the presentation only has to BRIEFLY state what you plan on presenting. YOUR PRESENTATION WILL HAVE TO MATCH YOUR OUTLINE
Conclusion
- Summary of the presentation and what you discussed about your topic
