How do individuals learn to lead? That is the question your magazine editor has asked you to answer in your first assignment as a new reporter for a national magazine. Leadership is a subject you are not completely familiar with, but one that will allow you to learn about the importance of a leader to an organization.

The editor has requested you write a three-page article addressing the following:

• Explain in depth how individuals learn to lead. Give three techniques used to develop leadership skills.
• Explain the importance of competent leaders in an organization. Give examples.
• Explain why some organizations with bad leaders succeed, while some organizations with good leaders fail. Give examples.
• Explore ways organizations can determine the success or failure of the organizations leader outside of sales or profits.
