Review the translanguaging recipe example from a Grade 2 Spanish-English bilingual learner (Classroom Assessment in Multiple Languages, p. 129), and word dictation example from another Grade 2 Spanish-English bilingual learner named Eduardo (Assessing Language and Literacy with Bilingual Students, pp. 155-157).
Focusing on one of these cases, answer the following questions:
- How would you interpret this evidence of language learning/emergent literacy?
- How would you explain to a colleague what the learner can do in Spanish and English?
- Considering these results, what feedback would you provide to the learner? How would you adapt your instruction?
In this discussion, focus on your responses to peers with as much effort as your initial post. You are providing peer feedback, with the aim of sparking new learning and building our classroom culture of trust. Give feedback that exemplifies the characteristics of targeted, actionable, and positive.
