Choose one of the classroom-based assessments presented on pp. 134-141 of Assessing Language and Literacy with Bilingual Students.

Students should answer the following prompts:

  1. Explain the purpose of this assessment and describe the data collected. How would you use this data in instruction?
  2. What is the role of academic language in this assessment? What considerations or modifications might be necessary for multilingual learners to demonstrate proficiency with academic language?
  3. How is this assessment responsive to multilingual learners? How can students themselves and families partner in this assessment?
