M4 Assignment: Paper Two – Theme Analysis Choose a story that we have read in the course (except the Garcia Marquez story, about which you have already written a paper), and read it again, taking notes. Consider the various aspects of a story–point of view, voice, plot, setting, character, symboland select a focus for your analysis. How do you see the story? What is your take on it? Answer these questions in your Reading Journal. Collect quotations from the text that seem especially relevant to your understanding of the story. Now, build up an interpretation of the story, focusing on a central meaning. Brainstorm your ideas as you write; alternatively, write an outline that helps you organize the central points of your interpretation. Develop an argument concerning the story’s meaning in a five-page theme analysis of your chosen story. Then, edit, elaborate, organize, and proofread using editing principles.
