Literary Ethnography

Read a short story and complete ethnographic field notes as if you were a researcher embedded in the social space in which the characters find themselves! You will select your short story, and you will need to be sure it is detailed enough for you to make clear notes. This assignment is both a creative one and a technical one, as you will take on the role of researcher and act as if you are living among the characters. You may add to/embellish the details of the story to fill out your field notes.

You will use the following format and template to make one sample field note entry or approximately 850 words total:

In addition to that entry, you will add a final section at the end of approximately 350 words about the ethnical obligations an ethnographer faces when becoming part of a community of people upon which they are conducting research.
