Classroom teachers work with a wide range of students who have a variety of abilities and needs. The application of research-based literacy interventions is critical to ensuring that the needs of each student are being met. Knowledge of a wide range of intervention strategies is necessary for todays classroom teachers as they support their students with literacy.
You have been asked to create a resource that could be used as part of a professional development session focused on research-based literacy interventions for a group of first-year teachers.
Chosen grade band (K-2,)and one of the following deliverables to complete this assignment:
- A tri-fold brochure, including documentation of resources
Part 2 on a different word document-
Utilizing the deliverable of your choice, identify the grade band for which the resource is intended and address the following information:
- Describe the purpose of Tier 2 instruction and the importance of implementing research-based interventions that support students language and literacy skills.
- Identify two common literacy assessments that can be administered to students in the chosen grade band. Explain the type of data that would be produced from each assessment and how that information could be used to determine appropriate intervention strategies and plan appropriate sequencing of Tier 2 instruction.
- Describe one strategy to help students set realistic short-term and long-term literacy goals. Include how to support students in monitoring their progress towards individual goals during Tier 2 instruction.
- Describe three literacy intervention strategies that could be used with students in the chosen grade band, including at least one strategy that is multisensory. Explain the desired results after implementing each strategy.
- Identify a technology tool or resource that could support the literacy interventions. Include the link to the tool or resource.
- Explain the importance of communicating with families when the need for intervention is identified. Identify and describe one communication method that teachers can use to keep families informed on student progress and build positive family partnerships.
Support the assignment with 2-3 scholarly resources.
