Assignment 1 provides students with an opportunity to learn and practice the steps involved in qualitative coding, categorization, and thematic development used in basic descriptive qualitative analysis, such as might be included in case study research. Students must first provide an introduction that describes Case study and approaches that will be used in their analytic process. Then follow the following steps.
- Codes: Using Discussion Post 2 – Prepare your document/transcript for analysis by numbering the lines using the Page Layout Tools and familiarizing yourself with Word Review Tools, including highlighting, Track Changes, and Comment Balloons. Using descriptive, in vivo, and emotion coding, code the assigned document transcript and submit the coded material complete with your marking scheme with memo/journaling.
- Coding List: Submit a coding list encompassing both the complete list of codes you have developed with associated definitions for each code with memo/journaling.
- Categories: Submit your system of category development showing all codes that you have assigned under each category with memo/journaling.
- Themes: Submit your list of themes you have identified based upon your analysis with memo/journaling.
- Report of Findings: Compose a two-page summary of the themes you identified and your rationale, describing your thinking and decision-making that led you to analyze your findings in the way that you did.
