Leadership skills

Purpose: Students will identify a real-life situation that they have encountered that exemplifies a leadership skill/competency and present a case description of the situation. Students will critique and analyze the situation using leadership and skills principles from the literature. Application of course content assists students with transferring knowledge from the classroom to a clinical setting. This assignment assesses the following course student learning outcomes: Apply selected components inherent in organization and systems theory to formulate strategies to bring about quality improvement initiatives to create and sustain changes at the organizational and policy levels. (DNP SLO #3, #4) Evaluate effective strategies for managing the ethical dilemmas inherent in patient care, the health care organization, and research. (DNP SLO #1, #6) Criteria: Students will identify a real-life situation that they have experienced that exemplifies one of the following leadership skill: Effective Communication Relationship Building Performance Improvement – Quality and Safety Education in Nursing (QSEN) Personal and Professional Accountability Leadership Ethics Conflict Management Creating a healthy work environment Provide a detailed description of the situation including your role. Analyze and critique the situation using principles/concepts from the literature regarding: Effectiveness of the leadership skill demonstrated in the situation Level of emotional intelligence that was or was not displayed What leadership skill would have been more effective or successful Analyze and critique the situation using one of the leadership theories addressed in this course. Summarize the main premise of your paper (no new information should be presented) Include a brief reflection on this assignment and describe the insights you gained (you may use first person in the summary) Your paper should proceed in a logical manner and reflect nursing scholarship including appropriate grammar and graduate level writing. Students are strongly encouraged to use a grammar check or program such as Grammarly. Please review the Grading Rubric to ensure you have included all required elements. Your paper should be in APA format and 5-7 pages not including title page and references. Students should limit quotations to 2-3 in this type of paper. You do not need to include an abstract or table of contents. Paper must include the following: Title sheet Appropriate headings and level of headings Reference list Use APA Manual (7th edition) Please follow guidelines for a Professional Paper. Please see Chapter 2 of APA Manual. Students should not rely on APA software or templates as faculty will refer to the APA Manual when grading.
