LEADERSHIP & Human Relations Unit 7 case study-mksj

This four-page case study measures your mastery of ULOs 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.6, and 4.7.

For this case study, you will analyze leaderships role in performance optimization, creating a culture of success, and fostering growth through performance management.

The provides a graphic illustrating types of general performance measures that are used at different levels in an organization. Note that the balanced measures incorporating the business, customer, and employee perspectives (the top two layers of the pyramid) are not only appropriate for measuring individual performance, but can be isolated to measure managerial, supervisory, or even team performance.

For this case study, you will create a hypothetical organization. You have the creative liberty to decide identifying factors, such as size, mission, product or service, and employee tasks.

Next, decide the level of performance measurement you will focus on for this case study. Choose one of the following:

  • Managers (responsible for supervision of operations and team supervisors in support of organizational goals)
  • Team supervisors (responsible for employees on their team and the teams work product in support of organizational goals)
  • Employees (responsible for their individual work in support of organizational goals)

You must then develop specific performance measures for your selected level. At a minimum, you must establish a performance measure that supports each of the outputs and outcomes in the top two layers of the pyramid. See the guidance in the Unit VII Pyramid for how to develop specific measures.

Begin your case study with a one-paragraph summary of your organization. Provide enough basic detail to set the stage for the performance you will be measuring.

You must now address each of the following:

  • Identify and discuss the performance measures (minimum of four) you established. You are encouraged to establish more measures as necessary to fully assess a particular performance (i.e., managerial measures may be more involved than employee measures due to scope of responsibility). If the measure is numeric, quantify what is being tracked and why. If the measure is descriptive, identify the judge and list the factors that the judge will look for to observe and verify performance and explain the rationale.
  • Explain how these performance measures foster both individual and organizational growth.
  • Explain the role of discipline and standards leading into and during the appraisal process.
  • Discuss the role of feedback in the overall performance management process.
  • Conclude your case study by establishing the role of leadership in performance optimization through the performance management process. Include a distinction of the roles of managers and leaders, and how each contribute to employee development and the overall organizational culture of success.

Your case study must be a minimum of four pages in length but no more than five pages in length. This does not include the title page (if used) or the references page. You must use a minimum of four peer-reviewed or academic sources to support your case study. One may be your course eTextbook and one must be sourced from the CSU Online Library. All sources used must have in-text citations and references properly formatted in APA Style.
