For this assignment, you will create a mind map to illustrate change leadership strategies and actions. This assignment measures your mastery of ULOs 3.4 and 4.5.
Congratulations! After many years in a middle management position at your organization, you have been promoted to change management officer. Your organization is acquiring a foreign rival company with production assets and capabilities that will enable your organization to garner a majority share of the market. Your current organization has built its success by focusing on quality and customer satisfaction. The rival company is known for prioritizing production and the bottom line.
You will be the lead change agent. The acquisition is set to occur in 3 months, and the announcement will be made to your organization next week. While the full details are yet to be finalized, some job losses for employees in redundant areas are expected. Additional employee impacts potentially include:
- revised organizational vision and objectives,
- changes to operational processes,
- role-shifting that may require retraining,
- change of management and/or team structures,
- changes to benefits (including health care and retirement options),
- changes to work hours and wages,
- changes in the organizational culture as two very different leadership visions must merge as one.
Knowing employees at both organizations will be apprehensive about the impending integration, you must begin to plan how you can help them navigate this journey of change. Using either the five- or six-step Change Curve model outlined in the lesson, create a mind map to illustrate your thoughts on change leadership strategies and actions that can help employees navigate the stages of personal transition and organizational change. You have the creative liberty to clarify or quantify specific details to better identify specific issues or concerns.
The contains specific requirements and instructions on how to develop your mind map. Once your mind map is completed, you will copy the image into a PowerPoint presentation. You will then add two additional slides that address the following:
- Summarize the role of senior leadership as coaches throughout the change initiative. What obligations do they have and what leadership characteristics will serve them best during the transition?
- As the change agent, you must coach middle managers and team leaders. What coaching and guidance will you give them to motivate and lead their subordinates during this time of change to drive individual and team performance?
Your completed PowerPoint will include your mind map and the two additional slides. External sources and APA formatting are not required for this assignment.
