Key Theme Discussion

Discussion points are not simple descriptions of what the author(s) have said in the individual assigned readings or videos. Rather, they are integrations across readings leading to questions that should be further discussed in class.

Specifically, you should identify at least two (2) key themes/common ideas/shared concepts from across the readings/media and provide a one-paragraph summary of each (this should not exceed one typed page altogether). In addition, each point/paragraph should end with a corresponding discussion question. Your question might be something youre curious about after finishing the materials, or simply a question you want to pose to your classmates for discussion. I will read your submissions and anonymously incorporate your discussion questions throughout the semesters lessons.

A Strong Submission Should…

  1. In some way, address ALL specified readings/media for the week (important!) NOTE: This week, you do not have to include the Katz reading, as we will discuss its key points as an in-class activity. Please address all other readings in your discussion points.
  2. Identify two (2) themes somehow touched-upon across readings/media that you found to be interesting and/or important.
  3. Explain why you believe each theme is interesting and/or important.
  4. You might do this by making connections from each theme to other material/topics that have been covered in the course!
  5. Or, you might explain how each theme connects to current events or social issues!
  6. Pose a class discussion question for each of the two key themes/points.
