IST 397: Annotated Bibliography This is an assignment that guides you through the early stages of the helps you hone your interdisciplinary (and disciplinary) research skills. This assignment also lays the groundwork for the prospectus (research proposal) and your interdisciplinary research project in IST 497. For the complex research question you’ve composed, locate two scholarly sources that relate to the problem and summarize them in 3-5 paragraphs each. Provide relevant information about the articles: publication date, researcher details (name, institutional affiliation, research background/focus), etc. As a summary of the article, you should be sure to include a brief overview of research methodology, argument/claim/hypothesis, and findings/conclusion. Next, compose a 5-10 sentence critical analysis of the research, including a discussion of the value of the research for your own work. Does this research provide relevant evidence or information for your own work? How and why might it be useful for your project? The basic exercise described above will be applied to both of the sources you analyze for this assignment. A concluding paragraph (or two) in this assignment should consider how the two pieces of evidence you’ve analyzed might work together as part of a larger interdisciplinary project. Things to consider in your conclusion: How might your two different sources relate to one another and provide insight into your particular complex problem? How would integration of the insights from each of these sources serve to solve or better understand the complex problem you’ve defined?
