Project Two Guidelines and Rubric Competencies In this project, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following competencies: Analyze the ethical, legal, and regulatory standards related to informatic technologies within healthcare Analyze information and communication technologies in healthcare Overview Technology has made an incredible impact on healthcare. It has provided repositories for patient information, has allowed providers to reach patients in rural areas, and has given consumers the ability to make informed decisions about their healthcare. It is important for nurses to be able to evaluate the effectiveness of information and communication technologies. There are many factors that need to be considered when reviewing the applicability of technology in healthcare, such as the information that the technology collects; the regulations that impact its use; the interoperability, privacy, and confidentiality concerns; and potential security problems. In this project, you will get to choose a type of technology that is used in healthcare and analyze the multiple components that determine its usability. It is an expectation that nurses embrace lifelong learning and continue to expand their knowledge. One of the best ways to grow as a nurse is to attend nursing conferences. Most conferences provide an opportunity for nurses to share their skills, programs, and research through presentations. This is an excellent way to combine knowledge and presentation skills. You will get to practice some of those skills in this project, which you will be able to carry with you into your nursing practice. Scenario Your local nursing association is preparing for its annual conference. The association sent out a call for nurses to submit abstracts for presentations. One of the specialty topics for the conference is Information and Communication Technologies in Healthcare. You have been involved in the process of evaluating various healthcare information and communication technologies for your organization. As part of your work, you have been able to analyze the many aspects of the respective technologies. You submitted an abstract to present one of the technologies and were selected to present at the conference. Before presenting at the conference, you are required to submit your presentation for review by the conference organizers. They have requested that your presentation is formatted using PowerPoint, following APA guidelines, and that detailed speaker notes are included with your presentation. Directions Using the Project Two Template found in the What to Submit section, create a presentation of your analysis. You may customize the template. It may be helpful to review the PowerPoint Speaker Notes Tutorial linked in the Supporting Materials section. Use at least five scholarly, current (published within the last five years) resources to provide evidence-based support for your work. The technology chosen cannot be electronic health records (EHRs). You will need to address all of the topics associated with the technology that you choose to review in your presentation: Technology Use: Describe the use of an information and communication technology in healthcare.Consider the following guiding questions: What is a type or piece of technology used in healthcare that interests you? How does the chosen technology work? What are the special features of the technology? How is the technology used in healthcare? Advantages and Disadvantages: Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the chosen information and communication technology. What are the evidence-based advantages and benefits of using the chosen technology in healthcare? What are the evidence-based disadvantages and limitations of using the chosen technology in healthcare? Impact of Technology: Explain the impact of the chosen information and communication technology on professional collaboration. Consider the following guiding questions: How does the chosen technology impact interprofessional collaboration? Are there concerns that integrating the chosen technology will prevent healthcare providers from sharing information among themselves? How does the chosen technology help with care coordination among providers? How does the chosen technology help with communication between patient and provider? Safe Use: Describe the safe use of the technology within a healthcare setting. Consider the following guiding questions: Are there security concerns with the use of the chosen technology? What are the safety precautions that need to be implemented when using the chosen technology in healthcare? Will cybersecurity personnel need to be involved in the implementation of the chosen technology? Ethical Standards: Evaluate ethical standards related to the chosen healthcare technology. Consider the following guiding questions: Which ethical principles are affected by the chosen information and communication technology? Which provisions from the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses With Interpretive Statements are impacted by the chosen technology? Privacy and Confidentiality: Analyze methods of maintaining privacy and confidentiality while using the chosen healthcare technology. Consider the following guiding questions: How is privacy and confidentiality secured with the chosen technology? Does the technology store data that is considered protected health information? Do specific privacy and confidentiality policies that pertain to the chosen technology need to be created for the organization? Legal and Regulatory Standards: Discuss the legal and regulatory standards concerning the chosen healthcare technology. Consider the following guiding questions: Are there organizations that must be considered when using the chosen technology in healthcare? What regulations and laws govern the use of the chosen technology in healthcare? Are there special permissions that are needed to use the chosen healthcare technology?Are there reporting standards that must be considered as part of the chosen healthcare technology?
