Discussion Topic: Discussion 1Discussion 1
The idea of the discussion post is to have all participants share their original thoughts and analysis of the content, and then build on each others ideas through responses to other students posts. You are encouraged to use supporting details from the textbook and other credible sources to support your points. If you do choose to use these sources, remember to cite the source (e.g., textbook; website link that can be easily accessed; peer-reviewed article) using APA formatting style (see syllabus for links to resources on how to cite correctly). With the exception of terminology and data, do not use quotes. Responses should be in your own words. All responses should be complete, comprehensive, compelling, and grammatically correct!
Please see the syllabus for additional details about content expectations for discussion posts. You must submit your initial, personal post replying to the main discussion question before you are able to see other student posts and reply to two (2) of these peer posts. The posts you select do not necessarily have to be someone you agree or disagree with just respectfully discuss.

Discussion Question #1:
For this post, describe in detail a personal health/healthcare experience related to culture or a personal cultural health belief or practice, being sure that you also make clear in detail how it is connected to culture and course content. This can be an experience, belief or practice of you as an individual, of someone you know, or an example from your personal cultural background, as long as it is relevant to the topic of culture and health.
Here are some example ideas of what this might entail. Please also see the “Discussion Post Examples” document in week 3 module for more specific examples of successful discussion posts (Note: This is not a comprehensive list. These examples are just meant to help you start thinking about how to frame your experience/cultural belief in the larger context of themes from class):
(1) Describe a health belief or practice and how it might either positively or negatively influence a specific health outcome of the cultural group.
(2) Describe a positive healthcare experience which displayed cultural competence and cultural humility on the part of the doctor, hospital, or healthcare worker.
(3) Describe how an experience at a doctors office or hospital may reflect differing cultural perspectives of patient vs. healthcare worker, and how this could influence quality of care or treatment decisions.
