HTN Discussion

You are having a busy day in your own private family practice clinic. You are happy to see a patient on your schedule that looks to be an “easy” patient. BUT here is what you see:

A 14-year-old female soccer player has been referred for evaluation of elevated blood pressure detected at a pre-sports participation screening at her school 2 weeks ago. She is 5′ tall.

Blood pressures obtained at the screening ranged from 137149/7580 mmHg. The school nurse has been monitoring her and has documented the same range.

Her BP today is 136/82.

Using the pediatric BP calculator, what is your diagnosis? In your posting, document one component of either your work up or your plan for this patient, and explain why that would be important.
