Healthcare disparity and DEI in nursing

NUR 301 Module Five Journal Guidelines and Rubric Overview Nurses must understand diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) issues and the associated initiatives within the nursing profession. Recognizing the significance of DEI is essential in delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care to diverse populations. This awareness enables nurses to improve patient safety and quality-of-care outcomes. For example, a nurse whose patient faces disparities or inequities such as lack of resources, language barriers, or inadequate healthcare literacy skills should be able to identify these problems and suggest resources to fill any gaps in care. The lack of DEI has been a persistent concern in healthcare, contributing to disparities and inequities among diverse patient groups. These disparities or inequities include limited access to healthcare information for marginalized communities, cultural insensitivity from healthcare providers, and difficulties with navigating healthcare resources due to lack of healthcare literacy. As nurses encounter various DEI challenges, it becomes imperative for them to actively propose evidence-based solutions that foster and advance DEI within the nursing profession. For example, nurses can improve their cultural competency skills as an active way to decrease biases and stereotypes in healthcare delivery. Identifying these disparities is pivotal in crafting evidence-based solutions to address them in healthcare delivery and patient care. This journal provides an opportunity to examine DEI concerns that directly apply to healthcare situations and recommend evidence-based solutions to the disparity issues. Directions You will write a journal describing a healthcare disparity or inequity that directly applies to healthcare situations. You will focus your responses on one healthcare disparity or inequity. You will also include an evidence-based solution related to the disparity issue. An APA-style template can be found in the RN-BSN Library Guide linked in the Start Here section of the course. Use at least two scholarly, current (within the last five years) references to support your work. Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria: Disparity: Describe a healthcare disparity or inequity issue that is experienced in nursing practice. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI): Explain the impact of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) on patient outcomes. Focus your response on the healthcare disparity or inequity issue you described. Healthcare Resources: Discuss how a lack of diverse and inclusive healthcare resources can lead to healthcare disparities or inequities. Evidence-Based Solution: Recommend an evidence-based solution that addresses the disparity issue and promotes equitable care. Importance: Summarize the importance of the professional nurse promoting DEI in healthcare. What to Submit Submit your completed journal. Your submission should be a 2- to 4-page Word document with separate title and reference pages that are not part of the page count. Follow APA style standards for formatting and citing your sources.
