Write a 47 page strategic plan in which you lay out the benefits and expected outcomes of the health information technology that you identified in your previous assessment. Additionally, identify relevant stakeholders and strategies for creating buy-in and support.

Introduction

Note: Each assessment in this course builds upon the work you have completed in previous assessments. Therefore, complete the assessments in the order in which they are presented.

As a nurse leader, you must be able to identify the key stakeholders in the adoption of a new or upgraded health information technology. In addition, you must be able to communicate the benefits and strategic value of the technology to obtain their support and ensure effective use of the technology. One way to communicate a vision and a plan for a new technology is to create a strategic plan document.

This assessment provides an opportunity for you to consider how you would introduce to stakeholders the new or upgraded technology that was the focus of your previous assessment and how you would go about creating buy-in and support. You will also examine the benefits and expected outcomes that your chosen technology would provide for the department or organization.

Professional Context

In todays health care environment, nursing leaders are a key player in organizational structures. As a nurse leader you will have to present your identified needs to a variety of stakeholders and role groups. Typically, it will be your role as a leader to demonstrate not only the needs that exist, but also to demonstrate the costs and benefits of addressing the identified needs. Additionally, you will be tasked with making stakeholders aware of the risks that exist if no action is taken.

You will be asked to identify relevant stakeholders at your site to whom you will present your recommendations for an improved or new technology, as well as your rationale and evidence for why your recommendations should be adopted. If this were a part of a strategic plan, this would be an important step in generating buy-in and demonstrating that the plan will drive improvements related to quality outcomes or finances.

For this assessment, continue using your site as the basis for your research. Build upon the work that you did in the first assessment.

Develop a strategic plan and proposal for the adoption of the technology that you identified in your first assessment. Your submission should be 47 double-spaced pages.

You will be assessed on the following criteria:

• Explain how an identified technology would benefit the department or organization related to healthcare outcomes, efficiency, and costs.
• Identify new or improved technology that is available.
• Identify how this tech will improve patient healthcare outcomes as well as organizational outcomes.
• Explain how the identified technology can improve efficiency.
• Explain how the identified technology can reduce costs or improve the financial health of the department or organization.
• Identify relevant stakeholders who will be impacted by the adoption and implementation of the identified technology.
• Who are the internal and external stakeholders?
• Internal stakeholders: Which departments/teams/roles would be most impacted by your proposed technology?
• External stakeholders: What patient populations, external vendors, insurance providers, community providers, local government, and so forth do you expect would be impacted by your proposed technology?
• How are stakeholders impacted by the acquisition of this new technology?
• Identify expected outcomes supported by the chosen new or improved technology.
• What are the expected outcomes (consider healthcare, process, financial, etc.) this technology will support?
• If you are implementing an improved version of a currently used technology, how are the expected outcomes better than the outcomes for the current tech?
• How do the outcomes improve effectiveness of patient care, organization/department efficiency, organization/department financial health?
• Explain strategies to generate buy-in for the technology implementation from the role of a nurse leader.
• What evidence-based support can be applied?
• Consider: Communication strategies, change management, etc.
• What are key points that solidify this as an appropriate tech acquisition for the organization or department?
• Consider presenting items such as: cost-benefit, projected improvements for patients/practitioners, fit with other current technology/process used, and so on.
• How are the strategies and information you presented relevant to the stakeholders you identified?
• Organize content so ideas flow logically with smooth transitions.
• Apply APA style and formatting to scholarly writing.

Submission Requirements

• References: Include five scholarly or professional resources. In addition to the weekly readings, include references from at least two peer-reviewed journal articles that are less than five years old or any interviews you may have conducted, cited in proper APA format. • Length of paper: The paper should be 57 pages in length, not including the title page and the reference page, and it must follow proper APA style and formatting. Use for guidance in citing sources and formatting your paper in proper APA style. See the for more APA resources specific to your degree level.
• Font and font size: Any APA-approved font, 12 point.
