Health Policy Analysis Paper Objectives of the Health Policy Analysis Paper: Using a current national bill: Determine the components of the legislative process at the national level and its relationship to health care policy. Analyze current health care policy at the national level using evidence appraisal. Health Policy Analysis Paper Instruction: The Health Policy Paper prepares the Advance Practice Nurse to represent the importance of a current national bill, and how it relates to your current student advance practice. Please use each part for a header in the paper. Part 1: Introduction: 5% (Header) The introduction will include the purpose of the paper and an explanation of what the reader will learn throughout the paper. Part 2: Choose a National Bill currently in Congress and describe the background of the bill: 20% (Header) Choose a National bill currently in Congress (either in the House or the Senate), Not a bill already enacted into law. A state bill in not acceptable. Please review the chapters in your textbook about the Legislative and Regulatory processes. Include the title and bill number. Describe the background of the bill. Explain what health care issues may have prompted the selected bill to be introduced. You may want to search for a current bill that relates to your current/future advance practice. Describe why this bill is essential to your current/future advance practice. Convince the reader of the importance of the bill and how as an advance practice nurse, it will impact your patient population. Part 3: Analysis of the bill: 20% (Header) Explain what the bill is about, its components, and where the bill is in the legislative process. Describe who are the sponsors/co-sponsors of the bill you selected. If the bill has several co-sponsors, list some of them and then mention a total number of co-sponsors. Identify the major stakeholders and their influence. List stakeholders who support and do not support the bill (pro and con) and explain why they support or do not support the bill. Do a little research on a definition of stakeholders. Once you understand the meaning of it, you will be able to figure out who stakeholders on your bill (pro/con) are as well as interest groups. An example may be that the bill you selected is about Medicare coverage for antirejection medications for kidney transplant patients. Describe who would be interested (pro) in passing this bill? Kidney transplant patients, their families, nephrology physicians, advanced practice nurses, registered nurses, social workers who take care of those patients. Describe who would be against (con) of passing this bill? Medicare, because they have to pay for it cost of the kidney transplant. Remember that patients would be the primary stakeholders on most healthcare bills because those bills are designed to improve patient care. Part 4: Identify and describe two (2) special interest groups that would make up an effective coalition to advance this legislation. 20% (Header) Describe why the 2 special interest groups are important. Please review in the textbook(s) what special interest groups are. Regarding interest groups, you need to look into organizations that may potentially lead this legislation. For example, any nephrology/kidney associations/organizations would be considered interest groups that can potentially lead the above example legislation. You have to list the organizations and show their influence towards a bill for a complete answer to this question. Part 5: Select a communication strategy to target your stakeholders/special interest groups. 20% Describe the method and/or the choice of a platform or print media to communicate to the general population about the critical essence of the bill. Include why it is important to the population specific and at large (make it understandable to all levels of the population), and why the bill should be supported by representatives in the House or Senate. Please only include the FACTS. The evidence. No opinions! Some examples are social media, billboards, newspapers, and blogs. Tell us what your communication strategy would look like. Part 6. Conclusion: 10% (Header) The conclusion should include a brief summary of the problem and the selected policy. Part 7: References: 5% (Header) Prepares a scholarly paper conforming to 7th edition APA format of approximately 6 pages in length (The 6 pages do not include Title Page as per APA format, references and or tables.
