Global Human Resource Management

Global Staffing

This competency assessment assesses the following outcomes:

MT220M5-5: Use the appropriate strategic approach for an international business scenario.

PC-4.3: Apply concepts of cultural competence to become an agent of change.

In the Module 5 Assessment, you will have the opportunity to apply research to recommend a course of action for a given business scenario related to global staffing considerations. When an organization opens facilities in foreign locations, many decisions must be carefully considered and confirmed to ensure its overall strategy is reflected in staffing policy. Part of this policy’s development will involve familiarization with the foreign country’s legal requirements regarding remuneration and work environment. Another area that requires attention is creating an environment where the corporate culture established at headquarters in the host country can be successfully introduced and supported in the subsidiary location.

Scenario: As the owner of a U.S.-based coffee distributor, you have recently acquired a competing coffee processing facility based in another country (use the same country you selected for a previous assessment from the list: Germany, France, Spain, Poland, Greece, Italy, Sweden, Belgium, Norway, or Portugal. There is a very small existing staff, but you need to expand operations rapidly, which will require hiring more employees. After researching how cultural and legal differences might impact HRM in this nation, you must recommend to your management team what approach the company should take to staff this growing facility.

For this assessment, use the reading in Chapter 19 of the text and any additional relevant research sources to develop an informative essay addressing the checklist items below.
