Genogram Individual Assignment

Instructions

For this assignment, you will create your own family genogram. You will need to include the following for this assignment:

  • A three-generation family genogram, including all members and genders (including children), family relationships, any relationship comments, emotional relationships, and lifespan.
  • Notate any additional significant physiological, psychological, emotional, or behavioral issues (i.e. domestic violence, mental illness, substance abuse, homelessness, criminal behavior/incarceration, etc.)
  • Include a 1-2 page discussion addressing the following:
  • What patterns do you see in your own family of origin?
  • How have these patterns affected family members (or yourself)?
  • Is it good practice for family therapists to experience creating a genogram? Why/why not?

You will need to use references to assist you in completing your genogram. There is a video posted under this week’s folder that will help you, as well as additional external references. You can also choose to explore various websites to assist you in creating your digital genogram. One such site would be Genopro.
