    1. Use the definition of institutional racism in the slides for this week.
    2. Find 2 examples of institutional racism for 1) Black Americans and 2 examples for 2) Asian Americans and explain how each is institutional racism.
    3. When you choose 2 specific examples, use direct quotations, using the citation style above (with subheading).
  1. How have Black Americans and Asian Americans resisted oppression? Use this weeks materials to find some evidence and used direct quotations.

Discussion purpose:

–to express your thoughts and feelings about what youre witnessing

–to participate in collective witnessing where we share our thoughts and feelings but also as a group recognize the power dynamics present and start to see the historical trajectory of the treatment of the other

–to participate in community building (which aids in retention, engagement/interest)

Step-by-step prompt directions– PLEASE read all of the directions before completing the assignment.

  1. read/watch the pieces on Black Americans and Asian Americans
  2. Choose 5 things in the Black American texts/videos that resonate with you from at least TWO different materials (NOT the definitions slides). Choose 5 things in the Asian American texts/video that resonate with you from at least TWO different materials. By resonate I mean what surprises you, what stands out to you, what affects you in some way, what did you learn that you didnt know before, and/or what did you already know that was enhanced by something you read here.
  3. Be very specific about the 10 things and share the quotations that resonates with you and tells us why each of them resonates. Please CITE the material.
  4. Please post this by Tuesday, February 17th.
  5. Respond to 2 different peoples posts by Thursday, February 19th by 1159pm. Respond to as whether you agree or disagree with something resonating with someone else (i.e. this resonates with me too because or this doesnt resonate with me because) or you can talk about how a quotation that someone pointed out resonates with you in a different way.
