YOU MUST DISCUSS AT LEAST TWO CRITICS, HAVING READ AND REFERENCD SEVERAL PIECES OF THEIR WORK. Also, be creative but informative with your writing, and remember that fashion writing is about painting a visual picture for your reader. Word count: about 600-750 words(60-75 lines, think 3 double-paced pages).
Ideas to help you get started:
1. What do you think of the coverage each outlet provides? Who did it well, who didnt?
2. How does the coverage differ in each media outlet?
3. Who is the audience or reader for each, and how does that affect the language used and
the designers featured?
4. Compare online vs. traditional media. Consider the use of visuals, vocabulary, tone, and voice.
If first person is used, is it effective? Why or why not?
5. Notice how the critic blends reportage with opinion, and give examples of this.
6. Does the coverage leave any unanswered questions in your mind? If so, what were they,
and what would have made the coverage of the shows better?
In the end, give your opinion. Which style of writing did you prefer and why? Whose was most informative, relevant, or interesting to read?
Tip: Aside from the fashion itself, notice what else the critics write about, such as accessories, beauty, outside influences such as current events or even weather. What about celebrities in attendance? General atmosphere/setting? Does street-style come up? Politics or economics? What do buyers and retailers think? What is the audience wearing? How have attitudes about Fashion Week evolved or changed? Is it still relevant in todays climate
