Rentals Hide Assignment Information Instructions Objective: Students will create an Excel spreadsheet to manage rental locations and dates for various Post-Apocalypse Vacation Rentals. Follow the steps below to successfully complete this assignment. Instructions: Step 1: Getting Started (5 points possible for successful completion of this task) Open the Post-Apocalypse document below. Post-Apocalypse Template Save the file as “YourLastName.YourFirstName” Unhide the two sheets that are hidden in this workbook (bottom menu). Add =SUM formulas for Oct, Nov, and Dec totals on the “Last Year” sheet Step 2: Select the “P&L” worksheet tab (20 points possible for successful completion of this task) Two columns are hidden (G:H), the percentages used to calculate the variable expenses (rows 14: 18). Unhid those columns on your spreadsheet. Create a chart object Select cells A4:D9. Click the “Quick Analysis” button near cell D9 and select “Charts” Click the “Clustered Column” icon, the first icon in the display. Position and size the chart object so that it is easy to view and read. Name the chart “Monthly Revenue by State” Click the chart (if needed) and click on “Chart Styles” (paintbrush) and apply style 11 to your chart (hover your mouse over the styles to see the numbers). Step 3: Format the Chart and Plot Areas (20 points possible for successful completion of this task) Click the outside border for the chart object. Click the “Format” tab and verify that the chart area is selected. Click the “More” button (format tab, shape styles group) to open the shapes styles gallery. Select the Subtle Effect – Gray, Accent 3 (fourth row) Click the “Chart Elements” drop-down list (format tab, current selection group) and select “Plot Area.” Click the “More” button (format tab, shape styles group) to open the Shape Styles gallery. Select “Moderate Effect – Gray, Accent 3” (fifth row) Step 4: Display and Format Gridlines (20 points possible for successful completion of this task) Click the “Chart Elements” quick button and click the “Gridlines” arrow. Select “Primary Minor Horizontal” Click the “Chart Elements” quick button to close the menu. Click the “Charts Elements” drop-down list (format tab, current selection group) and select “Vertical (Value) Axis Major Gridlines.” The lines will be horizontal but they track the values on the vertical axis. Click the “Shape Outline” button (format tab, shape styles group) and choose “Black, Text 1 (second column). Select the minor gridlines and apply the same color. Step 5: Filter the Source Data (20 points possible for successful completion of this task) Click the “Chart Filters” quick button Deselect the “Minnesota” box in the categories area. Click Apply. Step 6: Create a Pie Chart to Display Total Rental Revenue (20 points possible for successful completion of this task) Select cells A4:A9 as the category Press CTRL and select cells E4:E9 as the data series. While both of those sections are highlighted, go to insert and select “Insert Pie or Donut Chart” and insert a 3D pie chart. Name it Rental Revenue Step 7: Explode a Slice of the Pie (15 points possible for successful completion of this task) Double-click the pie to open the “Format Data Series” task pane Click the “Series Options” button Click the “Indiana” slice to change Set the pie explosion percentage at 10% Step 8: Make sure everything looks nice and submit 🙂
