For this assessment the use of tools, software, or features

of software which use artificial intelligence to generate

content such as text, images or data, is not authorised. The

work you submit must be entirely your own, representing

your own abilities and ideas. Use of AI to generate a

response to questions in this assessment, or the

assessment brief, is academic misconduct. Reliance upon

AI tools will also become problematic for you both in further

study and your future career as the knowledge, critical and

analytical thinking required for this assessment are

essential, foundational skills you are expected to acquire

and develop independently

In year retrieval scheme Your assessment is not eligible for in year retrieval.

Reassessment

If you fail your assessment, and are eligible for

reassessment, you will be able to find the date for

resubmission on your module site in Blackboard. There is

no resubmission if you are on a retake attempt.

For students with accepted personal mitigating

circumstances for absence/non submission, this will be

your replacement assessment attempt.

You are required to produce a 3,000-word discussion on Evidence-Based

Practice (EBP) and its key components within todays health and social care arena. Your

assignment will include an appraisal of a relevant piece of evidence from the provided

list using the Caldwell too. This guide is additional to the assessment brief and outlines

the structure and essential elements of your assignment to help you meet academic

standards and referencing requirements.

You should use this guide in addition to the assessment brief.

your arguments. You should be using evidence to support your arguments

throughout your whole assignment.

Assignment Structure and Word Count

1. Introduction (Approx. 100-150 words)

Outline the purpose and structure of your assignment.

2. Meaning of Evidence-Based Practice (Approx. 600words)

Briefly introduce and define Evidence-Based Practice (EBP).

Discuss the context and importance of EBP in nursing and its impact on

patient/child-centered care. Make links to your field of practice.

Explain how EBP contributes to improved patient outcomes and healthcare

quality. Make links to your field of practice.

You must support your discussion with appropriate evidence.

3. Appraisal of paper (approx. 1200 words total):

Approx 300 words:

Introduce the Caldwell appraisal tool and explain the rationale for using this tool

for evaluating research and your selected article.

Provide a summary of the selected article; including its aims, methods, findings,

and conclusions.

Approx 900 words:

Use the Caldwell tool to appraise the article; demonstrate your knowledge of the

research methods used and the quality of evidence.

You need to balance demonstrating your knowledge and showing depth of

discussion, we recommend picking 5 questions from the Caldwell to do this.

Consider what this might indicate regarding the quality of evidence, avoid simply

describing what you found in your paper.

Demonstrate in-depth understanding of the critical appraisal process by using

other evidence to support statements /arguments. You must support your

discussion with appropriate evidence; there should be more references than your

chosen paper. You may wish to review the reading list for the module.

4. Implementation of Evidence-Based Practice (Approx. 1000 words):

Consider the relevance and significance of the findings from your chosen paper

Compare these findings to wider literature on your selected topic (you may

choose to refer to studies of different methodologies, policy or NICE guidance),

try to bring in multiple perspectives and compare/contrast these against your

papers findings.

Discuss how the findings from your selected article can be applied in your field of

practice.

Barriers and Facilitators; identify and discuss potential barriers to implementing

these findings. Suggest facilitators that could help overcome these barriers and

promote the use of EBP in your practice.

You must support your discussion with appropriate evidence.

5. Conclusion (Approx. 100-150 words):

Summarise the key points discussed in your assignment.

Provide your word count (number of words actually used) after your final paragraph.
