Before you begin this assignment, click on this organism assignment list Open this document with ReadSpeaker docReader for your assigned organism. Each one of you have been assigned an organism (common name or in some cases, scientific name) right next to your last name. For students with the same last name, I have included either the first letter or the first two letters of your first name right next to your last name. If you have the same first and last name, the first number of your UIN has been included. Once you know your organism, you will begin the assignment by researching your organism. NOTE: Common names are notorious for being confusing. The intention was not to be tricky here, but make this a new learning experience. Once you identify the scientific name of your organism, you should use that to search for more information. Some organisms assigned to you may already have a scientific name with both genus and species names or just the genus name. In case of the latter, if you come across more species under a particular genus while researching, pick the species that interests you the most within that genus. In case where there is very little information about one particular species within a genus, then you are welcome to write about several species within that genus by comparing them to each other. If you find multiple organisms carrying the same common name assigned to you or have other confusion, please contact me or Andres for clarification before you begin your research. In this assignment, I am asking you to write a blog post in your own words on the information you will gather on your assigned organism along with at least 3 relevant pictures. Please do not cut and paste verbatim from a paper or website as your blog will NOT be graded. (Read plagiarism notice above). Additionally, please DO NOT use DIRECT QUOTES (cited or un-cited) in your writing and make sure you submit your assignment as a turnitin assignment in Canvas as you have done before in this course, and that you see a TURNITIN SIMILARITY SCORE(%) before you submit. If you have submitted it as a turnitin in Canvas correctly, then you should see your similarity score. You do not have to include the score in your submission. We will see it while grading. Please watch this videoLinks to an external site. on how to submit the Turnitin assignment in Canvas and also see your similarity score. Failure to follow instructions will result in 5 penalty points for each category listed here from your overall score. Your blog post should be 800-1500 words long (not including the references). Type your blog post in a word processor as you have done with other assignments, copy & paste the pictures into the appropriate location in the text, and save the entire document in the Canvas supported file type (doc/docx) . Click ‘Start assignment’ > then click ‘Browse My Computer’ button on this page to attach your file, and then click Submit. Use the rubric to ensure you have all the components necessary to complete this assignment. This is a turnitin assignment which checks for plagiarism.
