Staffing in our unit has become a serious issue, and it’s starting to affect client safety. Im constantly worried that something will go wring because we simply dont have enough hands on deck.

just last week we had a situation that really shook me. We were short staffed as usual and I was juggling multiple clients. One of my clients had just come out of surgery and needed close monitoring. I was in the middle of administering a medication to another client when I heard his monitor alarm go off. By the time I got to him, his oxygen levels had dropped dangerously low. Thankfully, we managed to stabilize him, but it was a close call. If we had more staff, someone could have been there immediately.

Im at a loss for what to do. Ive spoken to my supervisor about the staffing issues, but nothing seems to change. I’m worried that if this continues, it’s only a matter of time before something worse happens. I care deeply about my clients, and it breaks my heart that their safety is at risk because we’re stretched too thin. What should I do?
