My name is Jesus Medina, and I am from San Antonio, Texas. I am currently a freshman at CAST STEM High School, getting ready to begin my sophomore year. I participate in a program that allows me to earn an associate degree when I graduate from high school, and I am looking for opportunities that will challenge me and help me grow.
I learned about HSMC from my mother, who attended the camp for one summer when she was in high school and recommended it to me as somthign she throught i would like . Her stories about being surrounded by students who genuinely enjoy math and want to learn more motivated me to apply.
In school, I have taken Algebra 1 and I am currently taking Algebra 2. I plan to take Geometry over the summer because I want to be ready for more advanced topics. My favorite subjects in math so far have been graphing and solving quadratics because they are relatively easy to graph and when solving them, they are tedious but not too hard most time.
Some other activities i have engaged in include chess club because it is a fun game that takes skill and strategic thinking to play well. I participate in book club because I like to read from time to time. I also used to be a part of a program called Young Achievers. While in Young Achievers, they took me on tours of college campuses and started helping me think about what I want to do later in life. I am currently looking for places to volunteer so I can get volunteer hours and I am trying to get into National Honor Society.
What excites me about attending HSMC is that i will get to experience what it is like to be a college student. I get to live in the dorms and be independent. Another thing that excites me is that there will be some computer classes and I love anything to do with computers
