Briefly explain the theory of social disorganization. Does this theory make intuitive sense, based upon what we know (or think we know) about areas where crime is most likely to occur? (In other words, are there certain neighborhoods or cities which you know have relatively high rates of crime? How are these communities different (for example, economically and/or socially) from areas which you know to have lower rates of crime? Are there types of crimes which you think social disorganization theory might not be able to explain? What are the 3 types of social control identified in the reading by Taylor? Briefly define each of these and discuss the effect of low collective efficacy on each of them.
