Engineering Admin- planning in films

  • You must form a group of 2 or 3 (including yourself) to complete this assignment. Your group only needs to analyze one movie. Make sure you list your group members at the top of your page.
  • You should write a one-paragraph synopsis of the movie you’ve chosen, including the background on the event, mission, or reason they undertake all of the planning they will do – in other words, summarize the film and tell us why they need a plan in the first place.
  • Then, complete 3-5 additional paragraphs (or, 1-2 pages total) where you answer these questions. Please don’t answer them with bullet points. Write a narrative that addresses these things:
  1. Though the characters may not have explicitly performed a SWOT analysis, evaluate how well the considered their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Did they address some or all of these things at all in their planning?
  2. Did they define objectives, and do you think they are SMART objectives according to the S.M.A.R.T definitions from class? Be sure to assess each of the five components of SMART objectives for your particular characters’ plans.
  3. Assess the planners’ use of a planning horizon, a system of plans, policies or guideposts for their plans, and some kind of procedure on how to carry out their plan.
  4. Overall, give your opinion of how well the characters’ planning function was carried out in this film?
  5. In the end, how well did the plan turn out? Can you point to anything in their planning process that most led to the outcome in question?
  • In the end, this should be a fun project. It is hoped that you will be creative (even funny) with your responses, as long as they are clearly grounded in the class material. The best responses will be fun to read while still sticking to the core class content.

Upload your submission as an approximately 2-page PDF document that addresses everything above. Again, make sure all group members’ names are on the top of the page.
