Purpose
Practice reviewing and improving an employee handbook so it meets licensing standards and clearly explains important policies for staff.
Instructions
1. Review the Example Handbook
- Download and read the Example Employee Handbook provided.
- Watch the video guide for tips on how to add your changes in a different color font.
2. Find Whats Missing or Needs More Detail
- Go through each section of the handbook.
- Look for places where information is missing, unclear, or needs more explanation.
- Use your textbook (Chapters 68), the DCFS Part 407 Licensing Standards, and the video to help you know what should be included.
3. Add Your Improvements
- For each section that needs more detail, add your own explanation, examples, or missing policies.
- Type your additions in a different color font so they stand out.
- Use your own wordsdo not copy and paste from the textbook, DCFS, or AI tools.
- If you use information from the textbook, DCFS, or video, mention where you found it (for example: DCFS 407.90 or Chapter 7, page 112).
4. Save and Submit
- Save your revised handbook with your last name in the file name (example: staff handbook example Smith).
- Upload your file as instructed.
Checklist
- Found and listed missing or unclear sections (aim for 1618 issues)
- Added your own explanations or policies in a different color font
- Used your own words (no copy/paste)
- Mentioned where you found supporting information (textbook, DCFS, video)
- File is organized and easy to read
