307 Module Five Activity Guidelines and Rubric Overview Nurses are sometimes tasked with gathering and presenting information to others. Nurses who are interested in the connections between technology and healthcare should be able to review a piece of technology for different qualities and characteristics. One of the things to consider when evaluating a type of technology is the regulating organizations and standards that may be important for implementing it into a healthcare system. Another consideration is any ethical connections between the technology and its use for an organization. Fortunately, nurses have the Code of Ethics for Nurses With Interpretive Statements to guide their practice, and it can be used to evaluate ethical concerns with the implementation of a healthcare technology. Concerns about privacy and confidentiality must be assessed in connection to any technology that will be used in healthcare. The electronic health record (EHR) is a technology that has been used in healthcare for a while, and therefore there is information that can be gathered about its use in healthcare from the perspective of regulations, ethics, and privacy and confidentiality. Scenario You are an active member of your organizations Informatics Council and a vocal advocate for the use of EHRs. The Informatics Council is responsible for educating all users on various aspects of the healthcare technologies that are used at your organization, including federal and state regulatory requirements. You have volunteered to create a PowerPoint presentation about regulations, ethical principles, and privacy concerns as they pertain to the EHR. This presentation will be disseminated to all healthcare providers in your organization. Directions Using the Module Five Activity Template in the What to Submit section, identify regulatory organizations related to the EHR as well as the relevant ethical principles and privacy concerns with this healthcare technology. To identify relevant ethical principles, use the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses With Interpretive Statements, which is located in the Resources section of this module. It may be helpful to review the tutorial linked in the Supporting Materials section. Use at least two scholarly, current (within the last five years) references to support your work. Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria: Organizations and Regulations Regulations and Standards: Discuss two organizations that provide regulations and standards associated with the EHR.
