Admissions Essay for the Simmons DSW program – Statement of Professional and Educational Intent

Please submit a three- to five-page, double spaced essay (12-point font) that clearly demonstrates your ability to think critically, write analytically, and integrate evidence to support your reflections by addressing each of the prompts below. Please identify each section of your essay with the corresponding letter prompts below.

A. Reflect on your commitment to social justice. Identify which social justice principles you hold deeply, and provide examples of how these principles have informed your personal and professional growth. Include instances where your work demonstrated dedication to these principles.

B. Using those examples you shared in prompt A, explain how they have prepared you for the Simmons DSW program. Discuss specifically how the DSW program might assist your professional growth towards your commitment to the application of social justice in your future work. Also discuss how your aspirations connect with a specific interest that you might pursue for your capstone.

C. Describe your assessment of your professional identity, professional use of self, and how you hope the DSW program will help you advance both.

D. On a separate page, using APA format in this prompt only, please describe your potential capstone idea. Think of it as a chance to write about your dream. You will not be bound to this for the duration of the program should you be admitted, but we’d like to gauge how you are thinking of tackling the final part of the program.

Some notes from me, Jordan. Ive attached my resume for social work experience reference. Also for my capstone project I would love to focus on building a business plan/proposal for my private practice that would focus on spiritual / God-centered therapy that would utilize meditation and movement therapies esp since I have much experience with activities such as walks, runs, jumping rope, swimming, tennis and horseback riding that have uplifted me in negative moments.
