Your first draft should contain the following:
- Introduction
- A rough introduction with a clear thesis and purpose in the paper. It does not need to be a finalized introduction, though make sure to give a tentative thesis and roadmap.
- Literature Review
- This is where the bulk of your writing should be. Right now, you need to be reading and really delving into the issues around your topic.
- Start with the foundational/background information that sets up your topic with more depth.
- Then move into the key sections. You do not need to have all the key sections drafted or even identified
- But, please provide a tentative outline for the later sections as well so we can see where think you’re going
So, what your draft is doing here is taking your ideas from the and the discussions during the one-on-ones and now starting to put words on the page. Your introduction doesn’t need to be finalized, but make sure your purpose and intended structure of the paper are there so that everything is read in the proper context. The body of your paper doesn’t have to be finalized, but by setting up the foundations and giving us an initial outline of the next sections also allows us to provides comments on connecting things/overall organization. At this juncture, there is no need to draft a conclusion.
Finally, do not forget to include your references!
