Upon graduation, I anticipate working for a non-profit healthcare organization. Most of the healthcare choices where I live are non-profits. Therefore, when looking for employment, the odds are that I will work for a non-profit. I do connect more with the mission of providing healthcare to the greater community that happens with non-profits, but I am not opposed to working for a for-profit employer such as a med spa. The patient population for non-profit healthcare where I live includes all members of the community. The patient population for a med spa, for example, would be more focused on adults with a high socio-economic status due to the need for expendable income to afford the self-pay treatments. In general, non-profits have lower starting pay than for-profit employers. Salary definitely matters, but commute and scheduling are the main drivers for my employment choices.
