Discussion: Socialization

Respond to one of the following two prompts:

1. Reflect on the importance of socialization both for individuals and society. Discuss the necessity for social interaction to become part of society and to develop a self using examples from the Genie Wiley video.
2. Reflect on both Milgram’s and Zimbardo’s experiments shown in the video. How are social roles and the presentation of self significant in either experiment? Consider and discuss the different types of socialization at play in Zimbardo’s experiment, including how it relates to resocialization and/or conforming into assigned roles.
