1. What are your thoughts on prejudice in the U.S., and how does it relate to stereotypes? Include examples from the videos (What Would You Do? Racism in America, Latino men met with prejudice, Peanut Butter, Jelly, and Racism, and Check Our Bias to Wreck Our Bias).

2. How is prejudice and discrimination (two different concepts) manifested by people and/or institutions in the U.S? What examples of implicit bias have you noticed, and how do media portrayals contribute to it? Does social media factor in?

3. Have you ever felt that someone had prejudice towards you? If so, did it change your view or perspective of society? Have you ever had prejudice or bias against other people? Why?

4. Below is a link for a implicit bias test, it has a color skin and race test. Complete the short test (on first screen check yourself as a guest and then click on accepting terms, then take the race test among the options shown). Were you surprised at the results?

Answers should be minimum 350 words total. Please reply to at least one classmate for full points.

Discussion Week 4

  1. Select one of the following topics: two-career family, death penalty legislation, or unemployment. Write down the name of your topic.
  2. Using a search engine on the web, such as Google or Yahoo, do a search for research on this topic by searching for an exact phrase thats of interest (such as death penalty legislation) and the word research.
  3. How many results did you obtain in your search? If you ended up with more than a few hundred items, narrow down your topic in some way. Describe what you did to narrow the search. Describe the number and quality of the results you obtained.
  4. Check out at least three of the sites that you found in your search. Identify the website, describe the information on the site, and evaluate the usefulness of this information for you and/or other researchers.
