Discussion: Developing a Position

So far, you’ve analyzed the rhetorical practices of other rhetors in your rhetorical analysis unit. In this discussion, you’re going to build on that knowledge by crafting your own rhetoric in a position argument.

Your Post (Due Wednesday)

Take 10 minutes to write about something you believe in strongly. First, you might describe how you came to this belief and list reasons that support your belief. Next, consider who might disagree with your belief and why they might do so. Finally, how might you best communicate your belief to an audience that doesn’t share that belief?

Discussion Responses (Due Sunday)

Read your classmates’ posts and choose one to respond to. Help them develop their position by 1) identifying specific examples to support their reasons for their belief; 2) politely offering reasons that contradict their belief; and/or 3) helping them better understand the people who might disagree with them.
