Discussion Forum #2 Directions (SCROLL DOWN FOR GENERAL DISCUSSION GUIDELINES)

Assigned Reading:

Penney, A. M., Bateman, K. J., Veverka, Y., Luna, A. C., & Ilene Sharon Schwartz. (2023). Compassion: The Eighth Dimension of Applied Behavior Analysis. Behavior Analysis in Practice.

SATURDAY NIGHT BEFORE MIDNIGHT: After reading the article, write your initial discussion post, in which you should address the following:

  1. (1) First, describe whether or not you would advocate for compassion as an added dimension of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and why or why not. (2) Next, describe two primary pieces of information that stood out to you within the article. (3) Lastly, relate those primary points to your current or previous work experience within ABA.
  2. Make sure to include in-text citations with page numbers (see examples below).
  3. Length of response is not as important as the content; aim for a complete but concise post.

SUNDAY NIGHT BEFORE MIDNIGHT: Review classmates’ posts and respond to two classmates that have not yet received a response.

  • You are encouraged to make connections with the classmate in the post and affirm your classmate’s response or respectfully provide additional information on a different perspective. Please be sure to mention course-specific content in your response. Your response should add a layer of depth to the conversation, not serve primarily as behavior-specific feedback.
  • Make sure to include in-text citations with page numbers that direct the reader to the locations in the article that prompted your responses (see examples below).

GENERAL DISCUSSION GUIDELINES

Discussion posts (initial posts and responses to classmates) should be written professionally. Make connections to the weeks assigned readings with in-text citations that include page numbers, even if you are not providing a direct quotethis will help the readers locate the sources that inspired your responses. (Note: In APA-style papers, you are only required to provide page numbers with quotations.) In-text citations should follow one of these formats:

  • As a parenthetical expression: …….(Cook et al., 2019, p. 23).
  • As part of the narrative: As Cook et al. (2019) noted, “…………” (p. 23).

For these forums, if you refer only to the directed articles for the discussion, you do not need to include a reference section.
