The sociological perspective on identity is distinctly social constructionist in orientation.
In your own words (but drawing from the textbook and other available readings or viewings in the course), why is it significantly different to think about identity in this way as opposed to the essentialist perspective? For example, how does adopting a social constructionist point of view change your thinking about your own identity and sense of self?
