[See Whats sex got to do with it? under Handouts, myLesley course site.] Papers – While the principal goal of this course is the acquisition of knowledge and skills in human development, students are expected to be able to convey this knowledge by means of clear and effective writing (see Learning Goals contract). Papers should follow APA format; they should be double spaced throughout [no extra spaces between paragraphs] with a one-inch margin on all sides, in a 12-point font, with numbered pages and a cover page identifying the writer and the content. For this class, you do not need an abstract, or specific cover page formatting. Please put your last name in the attachment line and submit in a Word format. Grammar, spelling, usage and clarity should meet the standards of professional and graduate school level writing. In addition to spell check and grammar check, please edit and proofread your work thoroughly. A pattern of spelling, grammar, punctuation or other typographical errors will result in a lowering of the grade on that assignment. The Tutoring Center is available for writing and editing assistanceplease use it! At the end of each paper, include a statement naming if/how you utilized AI (artificial intelligence) in the current assignment. Generally, written work will be evaluated based on 1) adherence to the assignment instructions, 2) clarity, 3) depth of analysis, 4) use and integration of the readings, 5) originality and reflection, 6) organization, and 7) writing mechanics, including APA style for citations and references. Keep a copy of all papers. Papers are due on the date specified, in the manner announced in class. Any exceptions must be negotiated with the instructor in advance. Issues may arise in completing course requirements in a timely manner; communication is key. Late assignments may result in a drop in the paper grade. All sources must be cited, using APA format for the textual citations and references. Assistance will be provided as you learn and refine your use of APA guidelines; this is a developmental task and will likely take some practice and attention. However, ultimately it is your responsibility to avoid plagiarism and to use proper citations and formatting for references (consult the APA manual or website, or www.lesley.edu/library/guides/citation.html, or Purdue Universitys excellent online writing site ). Review the tutorial APA EXPOSED, found on the Lesley Library APA page; it is an excellent guide to citations and referencing. Ask for assistance at the Tutoring Center. Students are responsible for reading and understanding Lesleys academic integrity policies: Written Assignments: Developmental Lens Paper: Using either Bronfenbrenners ecological systems approach or Super and Harkness concept of developmental niche from Harkness & Super (2021) pp. 16-18, and Rogoff (2003) pp. 44-50; 194-206, reflect on your own development. – Discuss the theory briefly, integrating it and applying it to your own life and providing examples. – For each aspect or level of the theory, 1) describe it (citing properly) and then 2) discuss how your childhood and environment fits that aspect and 3) the developmental implications arising from that aspect. – Be sure to include cultural factors in your background such as gender, race, ethnicity, religion, social class, or sexual orientation. – In the concluding paragraph, summarize the salient implications for your development that you have worked through in the paper. – At the end of the assignment, include a statement explaining if/how you utilized AI (artificial intelligence) in the paper. Do more than describe or state the facts of your life. Use the theoretical framework to illustrate developmental and cultural implications from your niche or ecological system. Discuss how your niche was both similar to and different from the mainstream society/culture around you and the implications of this on your development. Make sure to reflect on and discuss implications on your development and who you are today. (Use your own development to illustrate your understanding of the theory and the implications for you, rather than telling your life story with a bit of theory!) Cite theories and ideas, as well as other class readings, appropriately in APA format. Include a references page that lists the sources cited in your paper. (5-7 pages of text, not counting cover and references pages). See sample excerpts from student papers on the class site.
