Prcis guidelines This is a one- introduction of approximately 8 10 sentences which
includes the following: (1) choice of topic (2) at least 3 research sources you plan to use
[ only one secondary source from class discussion may be used ] (3) 3 – 4 sentences about the
direction your topic will take. It is permissible to write this paragraph in the first person point
of view and to list sources without Works Cited page formality.
MLA format (including heading, font face, font size, pagination,
title, double spacing, parenthetical citation, Works Cited)
Length: 5 (full) to 6 pages
Number of research (secondary) sources: 3 to 4 (print or electronic) ** Only one secondary
source from class discussion may be used. Also, only .org & .edu sources are appropriate. If in
doubt, please ask!
Sources such as these are not appropriate for your research (though you may consult them just
to get started and to get ideas as you choose a topic and refine the direction of your research):
Schmoop, Book Rags, Sparknotes, Cliff Notes, etc. They will not count toward your research
sources. Do not include them in your Works Cited or your writing.
The (research) sources do not include the work of literature about which you are writing.
However, this literary work will be listed on the Works Cited.
Please include 4 to 6 direct quotations (half from the primary source and half from the
research).
As this is literary analysis, be sure to maintain 3rd person point of view.
Finally, you must save all research that you have conducted.
