Healthcare is a data-driven industry that embraces evidence-based decision making. Whether the issue is clinical or administrative, healthcare leaders must analyze problems using logic, established tools, and data. Effective leaders engage team members in the problem resolution process, and encourage a wide variety of perspectives. Once a problem is clearly defined, the leader uses an appropriate framework or tool to analyze the problem. Research, critical thinking, and team collaboration are important facets of problem solving.
In this assignment you will have an opportunity to reflect upon the industry and organizational contexts and constraints that must be considered before applying a tool or framework to analyze the problem. You will consider the organization’s setting with respect to mission, strategy, operations, capacity, competencies, and culture. You will also consider legal, regulatory, ethical, and risk management issues that relate to the problem.
Instructions
For this assignment, you will write a 48 page double-spaced paper that:
- Analyzes the Problem
- Present your data analysis via appropriate visualizations of the data. You must create your own data visualizations. Do NOT copy-paste graphs, charts, etc. from external sources.
- Explain what the data suggests and the managerial implications of that data. This analysis must identify the causes of the problem. Just having data about the problem does not offer any insight into the causes. Without identifying the causes, you can’t fix the problem.
- Your analysis of the internal data compared to external benchmarks and best practicesthis will help you develop pragmatic recommendations.
- Provides a Feasible Solution
- Identify evidenced-based solutions that will fix the causes of the problem.
- Consider the organization’s capacity, capabilities, and resource constraints, as well as ethical and legal requirements.
- Do not offer generic solutions that are not related to the causes. Healthcare organizations have very limited resourcesso recommending actions that will not fix the problem will waste their resources.
- Be sure to offer evidence (data from research published in scholarly / peer-reviewed journals) that shows that the solutions are effective and efficient; i.e., the solutions are proven to work.
- The recommendations must be sensitive to organization context and constraintsbe sure to assess the feasibility of your recommendations.
- Do not propose solutions that the organization cannot implement; for example, suggesting that a small, financially challenged hospital make major investments in technology is not reasonable.
