Part 1: Audience Analysis
In Part 1 of your initial post, it is essential that you clearly define the event and the intended audience for your special occasion speech. Perhaps you are accepting an Academy Award at a gala, giving a wedding toast at a real or imagined event, or delivering a commencement speech at your former high school. The events can be real or fictional.
Tell us what the event is about and who is in the audience in 1 to 2 paragraphs. You need to be detailed in your audience description, including demographic (age, race, gender, etc.), socioeconomic, and psychographic information.
You must:
1. Pick a special occasion
Examples:
- Wedding toast
- Graduation speech
- Retirement party
- Baby shower
- Award acceptance
- Memorial / dedication
(It can be real OR made up.)
2. Describe: The EVENT
Whats happening? Why are people gathered?
The AUDIENCE (this part matters a lot)
Be detailed. Include:
- Demographics age range, gender, race, cultural background
- Socioeconomic working class, middle class, professionals, students, etc.
- Psychographic values, emotions, beliefs (celebrating love, honoring achievement, grieving, proud parents, etc.)
Basically:
Who are they + how do they think/feel?
