Cultural Diversity Movie Review

Choose a movie (no TV shows or series) with significant diversity content and then provide a short report on the experience of watching that movie. Be sure to apply course material as you review the movie. For example, “According to Matsumoto and Juang etc…)

Here are a few examples of movies that focus on diversity. You may select one of these movies or another movie of your choice.

The Joy Luck Club (1993)

Focus: Asian American identity, generational and cultural differences

Family, immigration, cultural values, identity conflict

Crash (2004)

Focus: Racial and social tensions in Los Angeles

Implicit bias, systemic racism, interconnected stories

Moonlight (2016)

Focus: Black identity, masculinity, and sexuality

Intersectionality, LGBTQ+ identity, societal pressures

Coco (2017)

Focus: Mexican culture, family traditions, and identity

Cultural heritage, generational values, death and remembrance

Bend It Like Beckham (2002)

Focus: A British Indian girl pursuing soccer against cultural expectations

Use it to discuss: Gender roles, assimilation, bicultural identity

The Farewell (2019)

Focus: Chinese American family navigating a cultural clash over a family members illness

East vs. West values, family, truth vs. cultural norms

Hidden Figures (2016)

Focus: African American women working at NASA during the space race

Race, gender, access to education and STEM fields

Follow basic APA 7 style (Times New Roman Font 12, double-spaced, 1″ margins) Also, have a separate cover page that will include your name, class name, assignment title, and date.
