Critical Thinking Exercise #2

For this critical thinking exercise you will in a roughly 500 word one or two page document:

1. Find an event/issue in modern culture that address the issues of culture/socialization/media. You can examine anything that address these issues like songs such as Jason Aldean’s “Try That in Small Town”, Lil Baby’s “Bigger Picture”, movies such as “Boys N the Hood”, short articles, perception of Bad Bunny’s participation in the super bowl, etc. You can choose whatever examples you want.

2. Once you find media, address the following questions:

Be sure to explain how you think your chosen media impacts culture and/or public opinion using course concepts from this week. How do stereotypes in the mass media reinforce blacks’ subordinate status and work against universal freedom for African Americans? How might media reinforce positive images for African Americans? How does the culture/media you examined impact political socialization positively and/or negatively?
